The only problem is that the newer, safer nuke plants are going to be built and managed by the same old Sociopaths, who will cut every corner they can, bribe inspectors, exploit their employees, lobby for losser regulations, etc.
Power plants produce power. That’s an utility. A public service.
Public services can’t be privatized, or they inevitably enshitify. And they can’t be fully under government control, or a bad government can also ruin them, like when right wingers take over and start destroying public services to excuse privatization.
Without a benevolent AI like in the Culture books, the next best thing is public ownership with independent public oversight.
