Technology@lemmy.world•I Think We Should See Other SBCsEnglish
12·21 hours agoThe advantage of SBCs aren’t just the price, it’s the uniformity. Before SBCs made it on the scene, the default response when something doesn’t work was either:
“Well, it works on my 12-year-old Thinkpad”
Or
“Your system sucks, just buy better hardware”
Now there’s a consistent system to build compatibility for and benchmark against that can help the most people, allowing devs to spend time on things other than hardware, and allowing a “how-to” community to flourish, bringing new users into the fold.

politics @lemmy.world•Oil companies spent over $2 million on Meta ads in the lead-up to the midterms | That’s twice the amount spent by the League of Conservation Voters, the Sierra Club, and Greenpeace – combined.English
8·1 day agoYeah, it does imply that, which is why they compared the top 3 oil companies to the top 3 environmental groups.
Together, Shell, Exxon, and Chevron spent $2.1 million on “social issue” ads on Facebook and Instagram between late July and late October 2026. In the same period, three of the top climate and environmental groups – the League of Conservation Voters, the Sierra Club, and Greenpeace – spent just over $846,000, less than half the amount spent by oil companies.
But also, it doesnt matter because they could have focused on Shell alone who outspent all three Climate groups combined

193·2 days agoLook, I’m tired of Jefferies smug “I tweeted about it, what more do you want” face, but I do want to call out a bit of a hypocrisy I’m seeing here on Lemmy.
Theres a bunch of folks clamoring about how they want Democrats to focus on trying to fix things and not just waste time on impeachment, but then Jefferies says that’s what he’s gonna do and everyone is back to WHAT ABOUT IMPEACHMENT.
Personally I’m a fan of the walk and chew approach of doing both, but seeing a lot of people bickering about what Democrats should do for the next two years as if nothing they do will be sufficient.
For me, for now, I’m just glad we slowed the bleeding.

People will come around, but it takes time to overcome ignorance at this scale.
For now, it’s on all of us to do what we can to support the community and highlight how these injustices impact real people - hate thrives on ignorance.

14·4 days agoSMS messages are broadcast in plain text often through multiple carriers’ networks and I find it impossible to believe they aren’t already processing them for a myriad of things anyways. Hell, 20 years ago they were storing them and including them in your phone bill. This is just one more filter to run them through.
Not saying it’s a good thing, but wacky people can’t seem to comprehend that it’s possible for more… Let’s call them traditional Democrats could be turned off by Leftists, than there are Leftists turned off by Democrats.
Either way though, Republicans profit from the infighting to the left and people’s inability to compromise.

241·6 days agoAs long as Trump retains veto power and the ability to issue executive orders, all Democrats can do is slow the bleeding, unless Republicans grow a spine.
Even the most useless Democratic agenda is less harmful to our society than the burning and pillaging of our communities and social liberties carried out by Republicans over the last two years.

It’s also why I’m excited about the Steam Machine despite not actually owning or wanting one. It gives a consistent benchmark upon which game developers can be judged, and hopefully further encourages Linux support.
If reviewers start consistently referencing Steam Machine performance, it’ll give developers something to optimize for instead of just optimizing for the latest, fastest hardware.
