  • Disgraceful, old-fashioned actions from the unnamed diving certifiers insurer - and, as the major diving insurance company (based in Malta) is DAN World Insurance Group SP, it’s clear that DAN puts their reputation above child safety.

    I would add that I’m not sure 30 days is “generous” given that 90 days is somewhat standard, but given that it took only two days for a lawyer’s threats to arrive that’s not too relevant.






  • I also sometimes use the Kagi summaries and it’s definitely been wrong before. One time I asked what the term was for something in badminton and it came up with a different badminton term. When I looked at the cited source, it was a multiple choice quiz with the wrong term being the first answer.

    It’s reliable that I still use it, although more often to quickly identify which search results are worth reading.










  • gnuplot is not related to the GNU project or the FSF in any but the most peripheral sense. Our software was designed completely independently and the name “gnuplot” was actually a compromise. I wanted to call it “llamaplot” and Colin wanted to call it “nplot.” We agreed that “newplot” was acceptable but, we then discovered that there was an absolutely ghastly pascal program of that name that the Computer Science Dept. occasionally used. I decided that “gnuplot” would make a nice pun and after a fashion Colin agreed.
