2·2 months agoIt’s like saying Immich is bad because you don’t need to own storage or hardware for Google Photos. I know that. But it’s not a valid point of discussion when talking about open source self hosted software.
Also, you don’t need to open any ports. Just use tailscale. If you’re a bit more technically savvy, set up a reverse proxy. It’s honestly not that hard. Tailscale is just an app that you install. Why is everyone acting like it’s complicated? Am I missing something?

Depends, honestly. Understand what the person feels comfortable with. Apart from a few close friends and family (and sometimes the list can get even smaller), I don’t really want to be touched when I’m sad. Either listen to my rant, or if I’m being silent maybe leave me alone for a bit.
Anyway, just try to be mindful. I feel kinda annoyed by this one-size-fits-all approach to human interactions. It depends on the person, their culture, your relationship to them, the nature of the sorrow, and many other factors.
Some people simply can’t see women having any authority/accountability in their life. It’s the same with JD’s wife, or until recently, Erika Kirk. I think it’s a form of misogyny. These are not “poor little women” stuck with their husbands. They know exactly what they wanted, and they got it. They’re also pieces of shit.
At least the drugs were fun.

5·5 months agoI think that should be enough. Maybe try two vCPUs if you wanna host other stuff too. But for just some mirrors/aggregators, one vCPU is probably enough. I don’t think you really need to worry about RAM or storage either.
Computers are plenty fast these days. I think you’ll only start to see actual performance issues when handling hundreds of simultaneous users.
In any case, you shouldn’t be spending over $10/month. You can get much lower. Take a look at this. I don’t know how reliable or secure they are, but they’re very cheap. I’ve used their VPS in the past, and it seemed pretty okay.
Edit: You can also do what I do for heavier stuff like Jellyfin or Immich, and simply use the VPS as a relay. The actual stuff runs on my home server, connects to the VPS via Wireguard, which then masks its IP.

14·5 months agoNot always. You can pay by crypto at many places e.g. https://kyun.sh/
Also, many of the providers don’t really validate anything so you can get away with providing random information, and paying with a prepaid debit card.

Yep. For some reason, I’ve never managed to even feign interest in sports. During high school, I used to participate in quizzes. The sole job of my partner was to handle the sports section. I always found it so utterly boring.
I only watch sports when my friends are having a watch party, and even then I mostly attend because there’s beer.
