I tend to believe a lot of older corporate Dems are intentionally keeping popular policies out of the mainstream but there appear to be quite a few well meaning Dems that can’t seem to figure this out. I feel like everyone talking about AOC in these terms is either just past voting age or so old that their memory of the Obama elections are gone. Everyone said exactly this kind of stuff about Obama in 2008. “America is too racist to elect a black president” was considered an unassailable fact and yet he won handily twice in a row.
