Yeah i am trying to go as open source as possible to avoid this kind of crap, plex is the only closed source thing i still use and that will be replaced by Jellyfin soon.

depends on the apps vacuum tube (youtube 4k) plex 4k, also discovered a new use for it too. Wanted to play some ps1 games but can’t find the power lead for it, so after searching fruitlessly installed duckstation plugged in a usb controller and it works great. Best £60 i have ever spent such a versatile and reliable thing.

Well honestly I have been using them for a few months now and they have worked flawlessly.
What kind of services do you tend to want to watch through them?

I was using Nvidia Shields but wanted to get away from Android. Over the summer i bought some Dell mini pcs, put the Plasma Bigscreen OS on them and got some USB remote controls.
These have been working really well and is nice to have them running linux. The tv interface is really good and for the few apps that didn’t have linux versions i just made my own.
I use mine mainly for plex (which has an app) Youtube (vacummtube) and made my own apps to access tube archivist, odysee archivist and stash. So i guess it depends what you watch on it.

God didn’t do that man you did it!

Exactly my first thought.

I use LTO for my 70TB of data. My rig is done on the cheap. I got an LTO 5 drive external off ebay for around 500. SAS card and a really old cheap HP desktop for about 50. Works perfectly, I have done a full system restore from backups and the tapes are cheap. Have had this system working for 5 years now.
In the future i plan to upgrade to LTO 7 when the drives become cheaper, but I have found it to be very reliable, great for making my backups and just so cool and fun to use.

Brilliant. Your RSS feed was very thoughtful, I have added to to my fresh rss so i will never miss anything. Really like your categories all stuff i am fascinated with.

Wow such a good site. Really interesting articles. Then I though to myself hmm… wish it had an RSS feed and it does, so perfect.
I look forward to reading any future articles.
I like Nano; it lets me do what I need to do quickly, simply and efficiently.
I had the same trouble when looking for a NAS case that did not cost a fortune.I ended up buying a Gemini nas case from Ali Express.
Other than waiting a couple of weeks for it to arrive the price was around $140 USD and it is actually a really good case and mine holds 8 drives.

Nice to see the return of moth memes!

Thanks

I’m open to ideas, already got everything I can think of. Would love to be inspired

kind of getting ready for the day when the open web becomes pretty much unusable due to ai and id requirements

running the images through ollama using this model: gemma3:latest
It is working on cpu only and still gives a decent throughput

Might be worth a try.
The thing that has surprised me the most is how good this AI model is at accurately knowing what is in a picture when the model itself is only 3GB in size.

No i’m not just kind of thought it would be nice to have, that way if i ever need to make any cards or banners i have loads of stuff in every category, with no ugly AI pics like most search engine image searches show these days.

This feeds into my ultimate project which I think will take me all summer.
I plan to create a lan wide search that has kiwix, tube archivist, ubooquity, paperless, jellyfin, stock images and stash.
Then I would have a unified search point and i think it would make kiwix far more usable by not having to go to the specific zim first. BBut, it is a tricky project as some things are nice and have api’s others don’t
same my biggest issue is having to go through the hassle of setting up tailscale on device for when not at home. I will admit I have been kind of putting off dumping plex.
