Florida gubernatorial candidate James Fishback says his plan to visit every Waffle House in Florida to “meet voters where they are” has been derailed.

That’s because he’s been banned, he said.

In a release posted to X on Thursday, March 5, Fishback shared a statement saying that “this morning, Waffle House abruptly revoked our permission, and criminally trespassed us from all of their Florida locations.”

Fishback, a Republican and one of 41 current candidates to replace outgoing Gov. Ron DeSantis, said he had previously received permission from Waffle House’s corporate office to visit every location in Florida to “meet voters where they are.”

I live in a region that has both. My personal experience is Waffle House is better when you’re drunk, Denny’s is better when you’re tired.

Both should be avoided if you’re neither.

Good to know. And yeah, I mean obviously you don’t go there sober unless you’re young enough to need a place to hang out at 3am.

    Waffle House is GOAT?

I do love me some Waffle House, I’d be sad to be banned. My favorite thing to do at a Waffle House is to ask for pancakes, but that’s something you only do once. Sadly, I can’t afford to eat out anymore.

Waffle House has raised their overall prices by 96% since 2020. Hash browns increased by 110% and coffee went from $1.80 to $3.15. At one point, they added a $0.50 cent surcharge per egg due to the shortages caused by the avian flu. I’m not sure if that’s still that case today.

It’s easy and cheap to make breakfast at home. Waffle House ain’t cheap anymore. I’m sorry for you if you’re paying those prices for mid waffles with a side of eggs.

Ouch oof, I don’t live where there’s Waffle Houses anymore but idk why I assumed they’d be the one business not to jack up their prices because they avoided it in the past. That’s insane, do they know why people go to them?

I think it’s depending on the area. On a roadtrip I found 2 with very different prices, about a 60% difference.

The cheap one was in a gas station town in the middle of nowhere and the expensive one in a nice suburb of a medium city

Their prices are WAY higher than they used to be. I mean, so are just about everyone else’s, but theirs are insane now for, well, what you get. And what they used to be.

He’s only banned from running political crap. Pretty sure he could still go to a waffle house and enjoy breakfast at 2am

Some years back I went to a waffle house, GAH! Not actual food. Save your time, money, and GI tract.

I am so curious to know what your expectations were going in. Had you been to a similar greasy spoon type restaurant before?

Prolly, back in the 70s - 80s, def. gone downhill, while at the same time my discernment went up. My expectations, at that moment was, “well, how bad could it be, and I’ve got to get something to eat in this godforsaken food desert”. I had a teacher many years ago who said it was important to try things twice, to make sure the first impression was correct. Obviously somethings one should never try once. As for Waffle House, I’ll pass. If it’s a greasy spoon, it’s a corporate greasy spoon. Definitely not the place you would expect Tom Waits to be hanging out drinking coffee, and writing another amazing paean to the common person’s experience.

          greasy spoon noun

          1. A small, inexpensive, often unsanitary restaurant.
          2. An inexpensive diner or other informal restaurant, especially one specializing in frying or grilling.
          3. A small restaurant specializing in short-order fried foods.

Waffle House is as conservative as it gets. Like Hobby Lobby and Chik Fil A. For them to be this based and deny him means he is really problematic.

Or they just don’t want political campaigning going on in their restaurants, and this chucklefuck is the only one who’s tried.

Ill throw shit at hobby lobby and hate chicken because they are national chains and their owners views are abhorent. However, im not familiar with the views of Waffle House’s owners, but their locations are almost entirely in the deep south. I dont expect anything worse than bog standard social ignorance from some of their owners and a policy to not wear politics in the office (thus this headline coming as a suprise), but please correct me if im wrong.

The memes about Waffle House along with a few other establishments are there because they never close, are in well traveled places and are desperation food. To quote someone else from the internet, “You dont go to a Denny’s, you end up at a Denny’s”

Fishback is polling second to Republican frontrunner U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, but only after voters were not allowed to pick First Lady Casey DeSantis, who is not currently running.
