I believe that the real problem started when Baby Boomers got on Facebook and it just got worse from there.

It wasn’t immediately slammed with propaganda but the consciousness changed. I think there is legitimately just a lag between when the losers find out about something cool. The losers being anyone willing to say, “I can make this my identity now.” Be it by trying to make a living off it or just spend every waking minute pouring all their energy into it.
