And don’t accuse me of attacking Tankies. I’m just saying that they don’t own Communism.

(No one owns Communism: it belongs to all of us, comrade)

Authoritarian and hierarchy types don’t have a lot of imagination and are kind of bad at creative exercises for building new ideas. Their creativity is iterative so requires an existing idea. There has only been Soviet style centralized authoritarian communism so that’s all they imagine. Literally unable to imagine any alternative (unless they read political philosophy).

Although I suppose if the people you are referring to are not interested in political philosophy they aren’t interested in history either.

Exactly. They are uncurious and typically avoid anything that doesn’t support their view.

Building a new idea as opposed to building on an existing idea. The fiction created by pro-authority types leans towards realism.

            Authoritarians lack imagination and creativity.

They usually cannot imagine something completely new, they must “piggyback” off of something that already exists.

Because there has only really been Authoritarian Communism a la Russia, that’s the only way authoritarians can think of what communism would be, since again, they lack imagination and creativity.

Seemed pretty clear to me. You link about art but OP not talking about making art. I think you just saw the word “creativity” and thought they meant art or something. They were more so talking about creating systems of governance than creating art.

I saw the word creativity and assumed they were talking about creativity. Soviet cinema and socialist realism disproves this. If they were truly talking about envisioning different systems of government, they should have said that. Instead, they made a comically huge and hand waving statement about raw creativity from socialist projects.

              Soviets cannot create new ideas

Then explain the Soviet artistic renaissance

Oh well I’m only talking about creating new political philosphies

              That’s textbook moving the goalposts.

To be clear: they’re not moving the goalposts, they’re correcting a point of misunderstanding.

Moving the goalposts is when someone attempts to redefine a claim after the original claim was proven wrong. If you reread it, @[email protected]’s point from the beginning was a critique of modern-day Soviet apologists, not of the citizens, artists, activists, and workers of the Soviet Union.

Again you talk about cinema and plays and art when that’s not what the topic was to begin with. You’re just shadowboxing my comment. Have fun being disingenuous online I guess.

I am talking about creativity. Soviet era entertainment was based on pre-existing fairy tales and examining the human condition. LOTS of introspection and very little new or innovative that would challenge the status quo.

Over the same time across the world there were new world of art introducing new ideas and characters that no one had seen before. Comicbooks took the world by storm but were ignored in Soviet controlled areas.

Soviet art is exactly what I said authoritarian art is: it lacks innovation and new ideas, instead building on what exists. Instead of creating new heroes that resonate across cultures they have deep introspective works examining the human condition. New forms of art come from egalitarian communities. New ways of expressing existing art forms comes from authoritarian communities.

Comic books find their roots in cartoons, satire, and humor books. They didn’t just manifest out of nothing. Do tell me what “original” or “new” ideas were coming out during that era that don’t find their roots in earlier work.

There are exceptions but generally, no. Only morons would make this mistake since you have to support the tanks to be a tankie.

I think you give them too much credit. Try asking them to define it one day. It’s fun!

Although around election time (when isn’t it election time in their godforsaken country???) americans can’t seem to decide if I am a “tankie” or a russian agent.

I can do it pretty easily. “Nominal leftists who approve of authoritarian methods to enforce their desired political structure”. That doesn’t describe AnComs since, well, they’re anarchic and do not approve of authoritarian methods. Generally when I see the term used, it’s when the subject in question starts talking about gulags and firing lines, or otherwise imposing their flavor of “communism” on the masses by force.

If that describes you, then you’re a tankie. If you were called a Russian agent, it’s possible that you did something common among known Russian agents, like encouraging leftists not to vote, or otherwise act counterproductively against right wing authoritarians.

Did you do something like that?

I mean there is clearly a difference between an AnCom using the word “tankie” and a shitlib using the same word. Although personally, I prefer the term “campist” because it more precisely describes the nature of my disagreement with them. Plus…I would absolutely be willing to drive/shoot from/die in a tank if it is fighting the class war against capitalism 😈.

The eponymous “tanks” weren’t fighting the class war against capitalism, they were fighting a people’s revolution against what Stalinism became.

      No they’re not.

The worst insult I’d use for ancoms is “hopeless romantics”.
