The word “truth” itself ceases to have its old meaning. It describes no longer something to be found, with the individual conscience as the sole arbiter of whether in any particular instance the evidence (or the standing of those proclaiming it) warrants a belief; it becomes something to be laid down by authority, something which has to be believed in the interest of the unity of the organized effort and which may have to be altered as the exigencies of this organized effort require it.

The Road to Serfdom, F. A. Hayek

That’s typically the case between theory and practice. His writing carved out exemptions to justify totalitarianism in certain instances, defeating the entire purpose of his warnings against it. That said, the analysis of totalitarianism is accurate, the chapters on why the worst get on top and the end of truth are relevant to today’s political climate.

I mean, the Democrats didn’t shut down the government at all. There has been no clear intent of even wanting to reconcile with them especially because it could cause the release of the Epstein files.

The whole bleach and UV thing was dumber than you think. Can’t find the whole video again but Trump comes on stage for the press conference, sees a CDC infographic about treating surfaces for COVID, pauses a few moments to take it in, confidently takes the stage and starts talking about taking UV and bleach internally. Like the dumb kid who didn’t do the work but has to speak in front of the class. Yes, it was that fucking stupid.

Most everything you hear from him today is dementia talking. This was plain stupid talking.

The idea of telling a human to drink bleach was never a challenge anyone dreamed an American president would present to the people. I guess some people just dare to dream big.

Apparently sleepy Joe Biden just didn’t have the cojones to throw back a few shots of bleach, but I can’t say I’m surprised.

It’s too bad the guy that actually made the suggestion to America, didn’t have the cojones either. A tragedy really.
