  • The whole point of the post is to make fun of a French product that has a French name. I’ll even say that, further, they’re (jokingly) accusing the producer of the product of knowingly using a name that sounds ridiculous to English speakers, which is a silly premise to begin with.

I’m not sure what the argument is, but the original comment simply stated that the joke only makes sense if you don’t know French (I also don’t know French, and it took me 5 seconds to find out that “la roche” means the “rock,” so i realized oh they’re making fun of how French sounds. It’s not a particularly funny post).

  • I’m not the person who commented earlier, but I think they were referring specifically to “mass shootings,” which are more associated (at least, the perspective is) with being somewhat random. I think most Americans are more afraid of being shot at random in a mass shooting by mistake, as it would be out of their control.

Separately, gun violence as a whole is a huge problem. It is typically more associated with gang and criminal activity (which are of course big problems), but many Americans feel if you avoid dangerous areas you should more or less avoid gun violence, as the mass shootings tend to (but don’t always) get an incredible amount of news coverage. Additionally, many of those mass shootings are gang shootings. It’s really the school shootings, mall shootings church shootings, etc that people are afraid of. And those are a real problem, though the numbers are smaller than the hype would make it seem.

That being said, other countries don’t seem to have the same issue, so it’s still wild to have to try downplaying the violence.

I think that’s exactly what that person is saying though. There is plenty of opportunity for good public infrastructure, but bad policy and auto lobbies have prevented them from happening. A good example is how most neighborhoods are not allowed to be located with businesses/shops/restaurants, and vice versa. This simple change would make so much more of the country more walkable

  • In the image itself, it directly calls it a “profit motive,” not just a general motive. I figured you may have missed that by mistake, wasn’t trying to be rude.

Then the rest the of the post implies that these other people are able to do stuff without a profit motive, though yes it doesn’t state they have other motives i suppose? But i think that’s the point
