Seriously though, I had a brief period recently where I used the official YT app on my phone (before reinstalling Newpipe), and it was so horrible I started avoiding and minimising my usage of it as much as possible.

There’s a cure: don’t use an adblocker. Since opening any new video will force you to watch half a minute of torturous ads, you’ll restrain yourself and just finish the current video.

The problem might be that Google will argue this isn’t a downgrade at all, but an upgrade (for “security” reasons). I don’t want to be a pessimist, but the tech illiterate judges could eat that up.
