In short

I got a reply from a prolific anti-vegan troll and referred them back to an earlier conversation we had. Got banned for “harassment” and “following someone around” when in fact they replied to me and keep following vegans around when they post against anti-vegan propaganda.

And the posts in question:

The comments when I posted them rendered as

Oh hey its you

With background

The person in question is a very dedicated anti-vegan troll who is known to make non-sequitur claims as replies to vegans, in the hopes of roping then into a defensive position under the guise of “debate”.

To exemplify this I engaged with them a couple months ago and got a perfect showcase of their behaviour. I had never used this and have never replied to them since then (at least I don’t remember that I have and searching didn’t turn anything up). But then when they replied to me yesterday I did. And got promptly banned for “harassment” and “following someone around”. I messaged the mod who banned me to no reply.

Their behaviour is being enabled by lemmy.world mods like @[email protected] who will readily delete comments made by vegans should they dare step a foot outside of the norms of “civilized debate”, like e.g. in the same thread (1) and (2). The petulant and incessant trolling by them is of course never subject to such moderation actions.

To any vegan comrades, do not engage this troll, you risk getting banned and your comments deleted.

Apparently I used wrong account to post this. Will have to switch accounts to my blahaj account on occasion to reply to comments, apologies.

I ran into a similar issue, tho in my case I let the moderation slide because my deleted comment was admittedly harsh and inflammatory.

Still, we do need to start publicly calling out the presence of what is a clique of suspiciously dedicated anti-vegan users. Sorry, but if you’re that obsessive and committed to derailing and (in the case of complicit mods) silencing the voices of people who are just trying to persuade the world to be a less violent place - then you either must have a financial/material conflict of interest that veganism threatens - or your life is just very, very sad.

An anonymous person has claimed that the meat industry paid them and others to discredit veganism online.

The person revealed this information within an “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) post – effectively a virtual, real-time Q-and-A – on Reddit at the end of November.

The anonymous person said that an unspecified US-based meat industry trade group paid them USD $17 per hour for a year to “go on sites” and “discredit veganism.”

Yeah I saw, being vegan is really eye-opening to the sort of silencing civility arguments that other social justice movements face and why being rude is necessary sometimes.

I don’t know if I think that there is a paid campaign on lemmy, don’t know that there is the size to warrant that. But I do know that I hate that character from Dexter because of their language is very anti-autism coded. I do get your point though lol

I remember I used to frequent a web developer message board on GameFAQs years ago. The number of active users on that board at any given time was probably less than 10. Even so, there was still a very obvious Microsoft pr sockpuppet who would go out of their way to use every opportunity to slander Linux.

Never underestimate how pathetic a corporation can be.
