May japan enjoy the leopards.
From the BBC article (since I’m not subscribed to this site):
Takaichi is a staunch conservative who’s long opposed legislation allowing women to keep their maiden names after marriage, saying it is against tradition. She is also against same sex marriage.
A protégé of the late former leader Shinzo Abe, Takaichi has vowed to bring back his economic vision, known as Abenomics – which involves high fiscal spending and cheap borrowing.
The LDP veteran is hawkish on security and aims to revise Japan’s pacifist constitution.
sigh
She’s also anti foreigner. Not quite MJGA but close enough that you might want to keep an eye on her.
Yep. She stated that foreign tourists have been injuring deer in Nara Park, and the press wanted to see the evidence of that happening. Her response was basically “I did my own research.”
saying it is against tradition
The fuck? She doesn’t know anything about Japanese traditions, does she?
“traditionalists” frequently don’t
she even kept her own name??
“We won’t be able to rebuild the party if I don’t get everyone’s help, from all generations,” she added. “I will scrap my work-life balance and work and work and work and work.”
“scrap work-life balance” doesn’t sound like a correct thing to say for a leader even if referring to oneself.
She’s from the LDP’s conservative faction. Don’t expect too many correct things.
What a sad opening statement. Shame. I was so excited until I read that.
Not wanting a woman in charge is more a distinctly US conservative position. In the UK for example, the Tories have had 4 female leaders including 3 Prime Ministers, while Labour are zero and zero (not counting “acting” leaders).
