Oil industry heir John Hess, the longtime former CEO of Hess Corporation and current director at Chevron, is tied for the second largest donor to Fix the City, a super PAC backing former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s campaign for mayor of New York City.
One cool trick they do is that they “write” a book and the PAC buys all the copies to “give out to promote the candidate”. The profits go straight to the politician and books are recycled or whatever.
Having looked into it, cuomo is apparently not restricted in the same way mamdani is. Basically, mamdani opted into a public finance thing that prevents how much he can spend.
