Horrible, but I can’t say I am against it… my approach of “let’s wait and see before making a judgement” is usually completely drowned out…

Yeah, they can do what they want with no oversight that I know of, but the Nobel Prize is considered the holy grail of world wide scientific research, while it is very skewed in its selection process and its results.
Eq0@literature.cafeto World News@lemmy.world•Nobel committee unable to reach prize winner who is ‘living his best life’ hiking off gridEnglish184·3 days agoThis article raises so many more questions than it answers!
-
why are they still calling people? It’s 2025!
-
I thought runner ups were informed?
-
how long is their off the grid hiking trip?
-
why is 9 hours time difference such a problem? (Related to 1 and to the European centralism of the Nobel prices that I don’t really want to rant about)

If I remember correctly, there are older pieces of the Bible that come from a time where Jahve was only one of a duality of Gods, male god Jahve and a female god that later got incorporated into Jahve.
Shady reference that just partially overlaps
Jesus had brothers in the apocryphal books, that are not usually recognized as part of the Bible (the church says because they have been written later than the four main ones)
And today i pensa about steers. I knew bull and cow, I didn’t know the castrated male name. Love to expand my knowledge at every opportunity. (And I am heartbroken that 54% of Americans apparently can’t! The whole government has failed them)
I didn’t know there was a difference between advice and advise, but in this case it seems to me the noun is the most appropriate form ?
Thanks! I was really trying to figure it out. Defined should check my hubris and recognize my limited knowledge more often.
New word in my personal vocabulary!
Typo? Should I assume extent?
Does it change anything? I’d a smooker wants to quit, the path is the same independently of how long they have b been smoking
It didn’t help that the world we are in is now and more geared towards short term formats (memes, tiktoks, snippets of news…). A world were the ability to read long texts is undervalued and eroded every day
I know you are not asking for advice, but your situation is not unique, at all. The age of scrolling has impacted our capability of long term concentration, has eroded the parts of the brain supposed to let us get « into the flow » and store information for the medium term (and therefore the long term) memory.
If (big if) you want to undo it, it’s a lot of work, but it will not only help with reading, but also with all long term efforts, such as long term host projects that require sustained concentration, learning new skills and so forth. The path is to decrease the amount of short term enjoyment every day, and slowly replace it with longer term enjoyment. This practically looks like less scrolling and more reading/crafting/exercising without distractions. Short stories and podcasts or documentaries are a great form factor to start un-scrolling. Personally, if you want to get back into reading, I advice a low stake page turner as a first book. Something to train the brain while enjoying every page. A step at a time the length of the books can increase, or not! Just get back into enjoying.

I’m a parent now. I dread having to break to my kids that I have no idea what I am doing. For now, the kid is a toddler. Hopefully I will gain magical insight soon

In the Dark Tower series, there is indeed a horror train. Great section
I always love small misconceptions about technology that didn’t exist yet. In this case: no chance of silencing or turning off the device. Cracks me up!
I’ll apologize first: Sorry, kind internet stranger, you walked right in one of my pet peeves. (Now I feel morally justified in starting my rant with a level of emotional involvement that is totally and admittedly unjustified)
WOMEN’S POCKETS ARE A F****ING JOKE! Have you ever tried putting anything more that the glimmering sparkle of a summer night in a woman pants pocket? It either falls right off or tries to stab the kidney once the poor girl sits down. Usually both.
Because pants need to be stupidly skinny and form fitting, not made for comfort or for carrying anything!
My toddler’s pockets (2 years old) are bigger than mine!
/end rant, feel free to ring me up for extra rants on the subject
Took me way too long to notice this is a shitpost 🤦♀️
Not only that, on the other end of the graph it is known that poverty is a great stressor requiring constant mental bandwidth - that therefore can’t see used to “be smart”. So poorer people are not less smart, they allocated their mental resources to take care of their situation first and only later try to look smart in the test.
