So China has already gotten ahead of the US on AI…

Eye for an eye isn’t bullshit. It’s saying to always make sure the punishment is proportional to the crime. Before that you’d get people being punished much more harshly than their crime could possibly justify. We still do, of course, but we used to as well.

Abolish private prisons. Because there shouldn’t be a profit motive involved in housing inmates.
And yes, abolish the death penalty. Because the state can’t be trusted to get it right, and it’s cheaper to just lock people up for the rest of their lives if necessary.

And not paying workers.

So, they will override his veto
That depends on whether the Democrats win every senate seat that’s contested this year. If not, they’ll probably need some fence crossers in the senate to reach the two thirds majority to override the veto.

Sure, but the fast unofficial result is what leads to a quick victory being declared for the wrong person, and then “they’re stealing the votes, stop the count” when the results “change” from what was on the TV.
That’s caused by partial result announcements. Which would still happen with or without voting machines, given the way your elections are run. You could change that, but you probably won’t. Especially given you’d end up with conspiracy nonsense (“but what are they hiding?!?”) if you waited for the complete and official numbers - especially with the instant gratification people are programmed for these days. So damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
The legibility and consistency (and potentially streamlining voter throughput at the polls) is probably the much more important part, anyway. Not necessarily to the point of voting machines being a reasonable expense, I’d suggest, but the voting machine company lobbyists are effective if nothing else.

Florida, unless he has two cases against the BBC.

A fast unofficial result, and a legible and consistent printed ballot to be counted.

tl;dr voting machines will always be a mistake.
As long as there’s a physical ballot that gets checked by the voter as part of the process and then physically counted for the official result, voting machines can be a non-mistake.

I should have put “non-sustainable” in quotation marks, yes. I’ve fixed that now.

Hmm. The question then is what Ottawa can actually do about the UCP’s rank incompetence.
I’m just glad I’m not in the UCP’s splash zone. On the other hand, I’d almost rather swap them for the government currently mismanaging my own country; on the gripping hand, if I’m really lucky my government will actually be voted out next month…

I mean, they [the UCP] raised immigration up to “non-sustainable” levels in the first place, so why shouldn’t they be able to lower their immigration back again? Other than rank incompetence, of course.
[Edit: put in the quotation marks that I really should have included in the first place, and clarified “they”.]

There’s a chance that someone at ICE might manage to meet their insane quotas if they deport that data center…

Public transit is never going to work until people stop being allowed to make it not work.

That’s an interesting misstatement of his point. He’s a radical socialist arguing that capitalism can naturally end a different way than fascism. That’s not exactly arguing for capitalism.

The farming corporations are mostly family farms. The average small farmer is a millionaire with a six figure income. I recommend looking at the youtube channels “Farm to Taber” and “Farming While Beige”. I haven’t found where the former talked about the More Perfect Union videos yet, but the latter posted the following:

If the code is obvious crap, it doesn’t matter if AI was involved. If the code is perfectly obviously fine, it doesn’t (directly) matter if AI was involved.
In the grey area in between, if someone doesn’t say AI was involved it might mean AI was used undisclosed to vibe code the result from beginning to end. If someone said AI was involved, it might mean AI was used solely to speed up testing to track down the cause of the bug. In the former case, you’ll get nothing useful out of the submitter; in the latter case the submitter can engage usefully in pushback on their proposed flawed fix. In neither case did the AI disclosure (or lack thereof) actually help.
And that’s more or less where this news comes from - the tool usage disclosure turned out to not be useful, partly due to the vagueness of the method of disclosure (a tag in the commit message), partly due to people not reliably following the requirement, so they decided to stop requiring it.
I’m not going to start using AI voluntarily any time soon, but I’m also not going to start panicking that the kernel is suddenly completely turned into vibe coded AI slop like so many crazy people seem to have been doing lately.
Yes, which is one of the many many reasons I’ll never be a billionaire (unless the currency devalues by more than three orders of magnitude).
