In the late mid to late 90’s they had cameras and video cameras on what we would now refer to as ‘Dumbphones’. I was born between the Summer of Love and the original Woodstock. Those were my 20’s and 30’s. They had cameras. Not great cameras. Not all of them but enough of them. BTW I worked in IT and studied WAP and online multimedia formats as part of my training.

And something else you are forgetting is the trend was on blog like sites before blogging was a thing. People didn’t expect high quality images because they took forever to download. Often people also used crappy pocket cams and videos from cheap video cameras. But most people think phones when you say selfies these days, but they often used digital snapshot cameras and then imported them to the PC and shunk them down to Internet size. However AIUI the movement were based on camera focused dumbphones.

You don’t want to believe it fine. No skin off my nose.

In the 90’s and 00’s there was a photographic movement to take photographs with more depth using more hand and arm movement to make more dynamic images. Some say it came from comic book artists and others say it started as everyone doing the double thumb and index finger as a ergatz frame gide of what you were about to film, but this time you were the subject.

Anyways it got popular so people with cheap cameras and phone cameras started propping them up and trying to do some of it and most of the time they didn’t have enough time to get their hands right. So they started to take all these pictures of themselves with weird hands and people started doing it on purpose, and then photographers picked up on the trend.

  • There is no software that does theming for GRUB that doesn’t break it badly and was stopped mid development and GRUB 2.0 takes deep knowledge of how it works to theme it without breaking it.

Hell the little bit of theming they added to Ventoy has them slowing GRUB updates to make sure that it is tested and tested again before they roll it out and break everyone’s install without knowing it.

I plan on doing it but I really don’t have time for it right now or any time in the future.

  • Its not “Search and Siezure” it is “Searches” and “Siezures”. It violates the “Searches” part and the only way to work around is a warrant. A “search” is not only to search a person’s house, but to subject a person to being followed and tracked day in and out needs a Judicial Warrant in most circumstances because you are violating the subjects right to privacy.

In the case of Flock they could set up cameras and have trained people watch them, and that is iffy at that, but once it is autommatically stored and cataloged everything everyone does and where they go, and can be used to unwind everything a person does quite litterally like Big Brother, and then you can put that in a data base where the police can litterally do fishing expeditions after the fact to make a case, or the AI can just spit out a name that got a well known car reviewer seconds away from getting his life ended by a police officer because it mixed his plate with annother, that is an entirely different kettle of fish.

I is like the famous saying of the head of the Polish Secret Police “You show me the man and I will show you the crime”. It is because of this you have a right to not talk to the police and legally speaking any little thing you say or respond to “…can and will be used against you in a court of law.”. If you try hard enough you can come up with multiple crimes for anyone.

  • Technically correct, which is the best kind of correct. I have not read the books so I am just going by memory of the movie franchise which I haven’t seen since it first came out (and I have Long Covid) so the finer points of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion(Thank you spellcheck for that one) are not at my fingertips.

Considering the Death and Destruction of the real world Palantir, not to mention the evil use of general control and aid in creating a police state on purpose to the point that its employees have at several points have opened up large discussions that basically say “Are we the baddies???” I think the evil version of the Palantir shown in the films is the best analogue.

    Anyway updating my post now.

  • If you are attacking the Catholic Pope for being a foreign agent of Communism… You might be the Antichrist. If you back the company that is named after the all-seeing orb turned evil from The Lord of the Rings… You might be the Antichrist. If you obsessively see any opposition or person trying to fight the climate crisis as “The Antichrist”… You might be the Antichrist. If you think Freedom, Democracy, and Governments are the enemies of good… You might be the Antichrist. If you think being against fascism is a bad thing… You might be the Antichrist. If you think humanity shouldn’t exist anymore because you believe in Transhumanism and not humanism… You might be the Antichrist.
