Thank you for calling them podcasters and not comedians.

This was kind of my thought too. They’re just dudes who want to make money. Sure, yeah, hate them for working with SA, that’s fine, but what were you honestly expecting from these people?
I used to think I could sorta relate with him as he has that underachieving Asian persona.
The reason I got tired of him was how I felt like he kept giving free passes for his costars to do low-hanging racist jokes. Sometimes, a joke based on ethnicity can be bang on, like it makes me feel, “holy shit, that’s so true” because it’s based on a very keen observation. But when it’s a bunch of trashy “comedians” making jokes about small eyes, small cock, ching-chong-chang names, eating dog, etc. based on stereotypes, it’s just insulting.
And now he turns out to be a creep toward women and children, so fuck him even more, I guess. Too bad :(
This I did not know.
Americans probably can’t even afford his lies.
I think your teacher was just trying to be correct and didn’t mean she didn’t like it. Some locals might feel shy/awkward about it, but it’s not a taboo or anything — especially if you’re talking to a Ryukyuan :)
The family ties can be burdensome at times, but I really love that I’m still hanging out with my cousins in my 40s and our kids do too. We get together on obon, which is a day to honour our ancestors, and clean up our family tomb and get wasted lol.
That’s so awesome that you call us by that name. I wish we still used that as our official name as kind of a fuck you to the Japanese government, but it’s all 沖縄 now for government stuff. We do still see 琉球 used in the private sector though (as well as one of our universities). Are you Taiwanese? I’ve visited Taipei a few times and I really love it there.
I can’t say for sure regarding the textbooks because my kids aren’t old enough to have learned about it, and I grew up in Canada.
And yes, you’re definitely right about the government as well. At least they care about how they look to the world. Sanseito, on the other hand, don’t give a shit.
Here’s a bit of a rant.
Japanese people have notoriously been xenophobic, racist, or ignorant… but they also tend to be quiet and polite since the war, so they’ve really cleaned up their image.
They’ve also had their egos constantly stroked with all the TV networks showing stupid shows where all the foreigners are SO AMAZED by Japanese culture. Same with all these social media content. It’s really annoying. Being proud of your culture and heritage shouldn’t need recognition by foreigners and it certainly shouldn’t need belittling of others.
Not saying that everyone is a racist. Not by a long shot. It’s just that this kind of self-centered, xenophobic ember had been kept alive in a non-negligible number of people. And I feel like now, there is this perfect environment for which the shitty few to really have themselves heard for maximum exposure and influence. It sucks.
This is how I know I’ve not cared for the comedy scene for a while because, to me, that list is so unnoteworthy. I know or have seen clips of some of them but I’ve always thought they’re kinda mid to low tier.
More people need to raise hell about this group because they also have members who deny the Nanking Massacre.
Where, though? I live in Okinawa and visiting Tokyo with my family sucks because people there are so uptight like you said. Also, old people there are so fucking entitled.
Edit: I forgot to write how Okinawa is like the opposite. Kids are more free to be kids here.
I love how “being in charge of drugs” is being talked about like it’s an actual job within a company lol
I think they were trying to explain their joke.
I always thought nationalists are fed a sense of pride (through indoctrination, propaganda, belittling of other nations) in their country, and patriots just develop their pride organically because the country they live in is great at taking care of their people (and even those who are from other nations).
I made money odd BTC and that’s it.
Whatever vision they had, it’s not fucking happening. Web3 being pushed by those altcoins is bullshit. It’s so totally unnecessary.
This reminds me of an interaction I had with a classmate on 9/11. The planes crashed into the tower and the teachers were showing us on TV, and my classmate was certain it was the Chinese because, “they attacked Americans at Pearl Harbor.”
I’m of Japanese decent so I was a little torn about how I should react. I wanted to correct her that it was actually the Japanese, but I also didn’t want to seem like I’m taking credit for a heinous act.
The irony was that she was Arab, so she probably ended up being on the butt end of racial profiling once more detail was available.
As much as I do complain about Peertube, I do like how it’s like the old personal blog days. Just kinda quietly do your own thing. I’m actually thinking of starting a channel to teach Japanese. I’ll probably have a few lines of my diary and break down the vocabulary and grammar in English and French. It’s like shit nobody would give a crap about, but it’ll get me to keep up with my diary and maybe someone will find the info useful, which I think the earlier days of personal websites and blogs were like.
