  • Yeah right. 'Cause he’s a stay-at-home dad all year round and just flies to the moon in between for a two-week workation.

I find this claim of “he raises his two daughters” very dubious. I bet he does not have the time to raise that much.

I worked for ESA, I had lunch with ‘just’ ISS astronauts. Their schedule is packed. They need to be in constant training and if they’re not, they have a lot of other duties. They’re barely home. Bet that’s even more true for astronauts flying to the moon.

I understand the PR, it’s good to have role models out there, I hope his daughters understand. But…meh.

  • You could split Valve Dev from Distribution from Hardware. But that is a shitty split, I’m with you.

You could also just say: you have three years to split distribution into, idk, 4 subsidaries which are then “released” as own companies.

You could split geographically, and down the line those companies might compete with each other.

That’s what I mean with creativity. A lot of shit could be possible. But here we are and are told “it makes no sense”, “there is no alternative”, just crippling our own imagination before even using it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • JFK is shit, yeah. But LAX is worse. They don’t have any designated area for overlay. You have to go through immigration, only to go through security again to get your connecting flight. And immigration is rude, like, I don’t want to enter your shitty country, you make me do it, because you apparently don’t know how to build airports.

And security takes ages, so you wait in line, while you’re called out already to board the flight. Like I DON’T WANT TO BE IN THAT LINE! I did not want to go through immigration or security or anything. I just wanted to get my connecting flight.

  • Well you’re not alone in having that mindset.

Well, a lot of countries do not have this “18 years is the definitive line” ruleset. Which is made to not criminalize sex between e.g. 19 and 17 years old, which is also kind of ridiculous. OTOH it easily leads to the situation where 40 years and 16 years is also legal (in Germany e.g. when there’s no power dynamic between the parties - so 40 yo teacher and his pupil - nono; “random encounter” legal as long as there’s consent). But then again how would the law be written to make it better, like some crazy formula to check for?!

  • Correlation, causation, and such. Anectotal: know a well educated (i.e. intelligent) family, one child dumb as fuck.

What the “intelligent parents” bring to tme table: often money, but generally resources to educate the children. Send them to better schools, fund a college education, be capable of helping them with homework, enabling their outer curriculum activities.

That’s all stuff that society could provide for parents who can’t, but society doesn’t. Thus, statistically as you wrote,

    • intelligent parents = intelligent children
    • dumb parents = dumb children

    with the occasional outliers.
