This is a helpful clarification, thanks. Then my question to you is, should the viber cease and desist? Is this not a valid way for them to foment an interest in software/tool/website development? Surely if their code has deep issues, they’ll discover that eventually and maybe learn from it, right?
Like, someone could try to learn a language by only using an ai translator. It’s lazy and not as effective, but I wouldn’t discourage someone from pursuing the language on account of that.

Fair. But my impression is that passing snippets around has been standard practice since the beginning. What makes the code yours, in my opinion, is the application of the snippets and the creativity involved. I don’t see the LLMs as threatening this in a big way, yet.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head with wanting bike traffic to be separated for everyone’s sake. However, riding a bike on a sidewalk instead of in the road isn’t safer for anyone, which is why it’s illegal in many if not most US cities. I know it’s counterintuitive. Reading up about it might help curb some of your frustration though.

You’re absolutely right- Bernie and I’m guessing most of his followers are social democrats. I seem to recall an interview where this came up and he basically shrugged the question off and said it didn’t matter to him what ppl called it. As for these political terms, I think Americans are broadly illiterate.

I read the German source article someone else posted and you’re spot on. The thinner air is the main advantage for the reason you mentioned. But apparently snow-reflected light off the surrounding peaks is a significant factor as well. I find that interesting.

Betteridge’s law of headlines strikes again

I didn’t realise anyone still uses facebook. Like in developed countries I mean.

For anyone who doesn’t immediately have a clear idea of what 2.5 billion redneck units of water is, it’s about 10 million m^3 or 6 Roman colosseums of water. About 1 lake.

I was wondering the opposite actually. How was that thing flying for any amount of time in the first place? I thought maybe people are desensitized these days, but there’s probably a useful distinction to be made between the ones who make a big stink on social media and the ones who take useful action.

There are good lists of alternatives out there. For Germany, I like this one: https://lmaa.space/

Many of them also subscribe to a middle eastern religion. You’d think they’d be huge fans of the place.
At least for the gas this is the start of a better way of thinking about the problem. When I still lived in the US, I heard ppl complain about the price of gas all the time. However, I never heard complaints about our dependency on gas or the economic problem that the cheapest stuff there is per volume felt expensive to buy.
