  • Have you considered the Dreadbox Nymphes? I don’t have one, but it’s on my list because it hits the Juno60/106 target very well while also being more flexible in terms of sound design. BYOKB, but I can see one of them sitting very well next to a digital workhorse like a Blofeld or MS2000R in a setup for when you need that analog feeling.

  • Apple’s making it easy these days. Mac Minis are cheap and more than enough computer for 95% of people’s tasks, while also using sipping watts. I’m on a M4 Mac Mini and it’s using 3.91 watts right now. I’ve run it at full tilt for extended periods of time and I barely heard the fan. It even runs BG3 somehow.

That said, the power button being on the bottom is dumb but not a real issue. MacOS’s assumption that you’re going to be using a trackpad is annoying for those of us with nice mice. Actually, MacOS is just annoying in a lot of ways. I get that the bumpers are there to keep people from causing long lines at Genius Bars, but I wish there were just a single button that I could hit that tell the machine I know my way around a *nix and don’t need to be babied at every turn.

  • If you’re a parent, you are the problem. It’s not strangers’ jobs to parent your kids. If you can’t keep them from bothering other people do not take them to places with other people. It’s not socially acceptable for me to kick your kid, so don’t put me in a position where that starts seeming like a good idea.

  • A few weeks ago my wife and I were getting breakfast at a local bakery. Inside, a dad had decided that it did not matter that his small child was running around, screaming at the top of his lungs. The little gremlin started trying to steal pastries off other people’s tables and dad stiff didn’t do anything until the staff announced loudly that all unattended children would be reported to CPS.

That kid didn’t need a beating, but that dad sure did.
