I feel like “willful” implies that everyone is equally capable of distinguishing between facts and lies, and that people aren’t easily swayed by propaganda. If the latter were true, the advertising industry wouldn’t exist. Republicans have been working to dismantle public education for decades. How many people have been psychologically manipulated like this since before they could speak? They might be “old enough to know better” but did they ever have an opportunity to learn critical thinking skills? Look at what they’re teaching kids in Oklahoma. What chance do they have?
