I’m sorry but my local government all Democrats have directly led to skyrocketing costs of owning electric vehicles and trying to power them up. You literally cannot afford an electric vehicle in the PNW unless you make over 200k a year, it’s insane now.

I’m a gearhead. What fucking EV are you talking about? A brand new cybertruck? Lucid Air?

A Chevy Bolt can be had for under $10k and gets 4 miles per KWh on a bad day. I live in Spokane, which I’d consider the INW (inland northwest), but close enough to the PNW, where my electricity costs about 14 center per KWh. So for 14 cents I can go 4 miles. For $3.50 I can go 100 miles.

In a gasoline car that gets a respectable 50mpg, I could go roughly 50 miles for $3.50, considering Idaho fuel prices. If I filled up in Washington, I wouldn’t get close to 50 miles.

If I made 200k/yr, I could afford to buy two chevy bolts per year, and still be spending less than a conservative 10% of my income on car purchases, not to mention the savings on fuel. I’m guessing a used Nissan leaf would be even cheaper.

You missed the part about the extra fees, the carbon tax fee, the ev registration fee, the new ev road use fee, the exclusive ev parking fees, have I mentioned the new ev specific fee for new purchases?

Tldr; you missed a few fees.

In my state, republicans slapped on much higher EV registration fees but when democrats came into power, they just left them there. This pattern seems to mirror the national strategy.

      power them up…PNW

If you’re talking California electricity prices, I get you — those are pretty horrendous — but Oregon and Washington electricity prices are pretty decent.

      https://www.electricchoice.com/electricity-prices-by-state/

National average for residential electricity is $0.18/kWh. California is $0.34/kWh. Oregon is $0.16/kWh. Washington is $0.14/kWh.

Our rates in WA have gone up 66% in 4 years and is estimated to go up 30-40% in the next 4 years. There’s also all the new fees exclusively for EVs.
