It might be because it’s super obvious that Jimmy was falsely accused and punished, even to the average MAGA.

Everything was public. Jimmy didn’t say what they said he said.

The average MAGA actually thinks they’re a good person, despite constantly believing the stupidest propaganda. But this was so blatant and obvious that even they weren’t fooled.

And then, Jimmy was let back on the air. For the average person, even if they didn’t know he was falsely accused and punished, the action of letting him back on the air is proof that he was right.

      Jimmy was falsely accused

He was smeared, when a bunch of terminally online internet bozos tried to drag him for stating Trump and his cronies were

desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them

But they have him dead to rights, in so far as he said this shit and it made them mad.

The average MAGA actually thinks they’re a good person, despite constantly believing the stupidest propaganda.

That’s the nature of propaganda. If you didn’t get the impression that agreeing made you more righteous, it wouldn’t work. There are plenty of perfectly intelligent people who get gulled into believing propagandistic claims. And there are plenty of dumb-as-dirt people who reflexively reject or ignore propaganda that runs counter to their personal ideology and accumulated priors.

And then, Jimmy was let back on the air.

The news cycle turned. C-levels at ABC got spooked at declining subscription rates (which weren’t unique to Kimmel, this was just a last-straw for a bunch of people). And now he’s largely forgotten, as is Charlie Kirk, because we’re talking about the Sumud Flotilla instead.

Very possible Colbert gets similar treatment, depending on how many shits Larry Ellison decides to give.

the action of letting him back on the air is proof that he was right

He was right. But it was a banal claim. Nobody ever really denied it.

Kimmel’s a made-man in Hollywood, and that was more important than flattering a bunch of dipshits in DC who had Goldfish Brain anyway. But the damage has been done. We’ve seen a rash of violence stemming from the Kirk assassination that is getting even less coverage than the Kirk Shooter’s original motives. Fascists are continuing apace. Nobody’s stopping them.

There is a bit of a disconnect, because I’m sure Kimmel thought he was defending Kirk, if anything. If a person dies, and everybody makes up their own stories that push their own agenda about the reason he was killed before the facts are available, and states that it is definitely a specific reason, that is dishonoring the dead person. They don’t care about the facts, and just use it for their own political gain. All of the MAGA politicians were doing exactly that, and he was criticizing them for it.

On the other hand, MAGA politicians probably thought that Kirk would have used other people’s deaths for political purposes, so it’s not dishonoring him to do the same thing. (And let’s get real, they didn’t even care to think it through that much. They saw a chance to push their agenda and used it, without any regard for truth.)

So, “dead to rights” is not the words I’d have used, because they were criticizing him, saying that he was dishonoring Charlie Kirk. But I’m sure that Kimmel thought he was defending Kirk.

Had they said, “Kimmel was making fun of MAGA politicians, and that is why we want him off the air,” then they’d have him “dead to rights”. Yes, that is what they were thinking, but that is not what they were saying.

I don’t even like (or dislike) Jimmy Kimmel but I still cancelled my Disney+ subscription for him.

Makes me wonder, since we’ve basically just thrown the rule of law out the window at this point, maybe America could just agree to let Kimmel step in for Trump, and we’ll revisit this whole politics thing once we’ve had 3 years to cool off and decompress.

I started watching Kimmel because of this whole fiasco. Not the entire show, mind you, but I catch the opening monologues on YouTube.
