  • Cynical view: neoliberals are in bed with republicans, gotta follow the money and lobbyists.

A kinder take: The dems definitely have a messaging problem.

Realistic view: Neoliberals are almost as corrupt as Republicans, a lot of their owner donors are the same ones who own the Republican party, and that’s most of the reason why they absolutely suck at messaging.

When you’re trying to defeat the fascists who came into power using moneyed interests to abuse a broken system, the moneyed interests who own and benefit from the system is your ACTUAL main source of income and most of the people you’re pretending to appeal to absolutely loathe both billionaires and the system, your messaging is GONNA suck big, floppy donkey dick.

As fraudulent and infantile as the fascist messaging is, it’s still clear and forceful, which makes it much more effective than the empty and vague promises and threats of Neoliberals.

  • I was about to say that they have the causality backwards but then I thought about it and realized that it’s both ways:

Racist demagogues complain about immigrants, which makes people more racist, which makes people more anti immigrant, which makes people more racist etc until everything is so fucked that fascists take over.

The only way to stop the process is to have highly influential politicians and journalists who are both ethically principled and at least as skilled at effective rhetoric as the fascist demagogues and their astroturfed echo chamber.

Which means that the US, Germany, the UK, India, Russia, Israel, and several other influential countries are COMPLETELY fucked right now.

  • Just yesterday fucking STEPHEN MILLER said that they’d follow court orders

So a lying liar who lies every day lied again yesterday. Big fucking whoop.

Additionally the separation of powers not just at the federal level but at the fact that states are independent (but not geopolitical) in almost everything they do.

Except for the fact that all other branches of the federal government and the majority of the states are not only deferring to the executive, but also compelling the other states to do so.

Your language is completely devoid of nuance and is not helpful in any way

I’m pointing out the objective reality, thus doing what little I can to combat harmful complacency and blind belief in the same broken system that the fascists got into power by exploiting.

You, on the other hand, are the equivalent of the Weimar Republic officials insisting that the safeguards of parliamentary rules will stop Hitler from taking over.

Unlike pointing out reality THAT’S incredibly unhelpful.

What do you want me to do?

Open your fucking eyes and stop insisting that others close theirs. I know it’s hard but, contrary to what you seem to think, the first step to solving the problem of unconstrained fascism is realizing that the usual constraints aren’t working.

What do you want me to do? Give up

    FUCK no.

or understand whats happening in order to work against it.

Yes! That’s EXACTLY what I want you to do!

    Cool. People should still vote

I never said they shouldn’t. What I’m saying is that doing so is not enough and might in fact not have any effect, depending on how far along the Project 25 election rigging is by next year.

    We should still expect midterms

Demand? Yes. Take for granted? Absolutely not. You don’t win a fight by waving a rule book at the person assaulting you and trying to kill you.

we are constitutionally entitled to it.

Yes, but the fascists are blatantly ignoring the constitution. Pointing out that they’re not SUPPOSED to do so doesn’t stop them. Insisting to others that they’re GOING to is actively harmful.

do you just want us to roll over and let repubs keep control of Congress?

Again, that’s the opposite of what I want.

    Actually, what are YOU doing?

As I also said earlier: I’m doing what little I can, which is to point out objective reality in order to combat harmful complacency.

  • Why should we just act as if Trump is allowed to do what he wants

Because he is. The people whose job it is to stop him aren’t doing their job. To acknowledge reality isn’t approval and to deny the obvious doesn’t help anyone.

The Dem leadership won’t save us. They’re much more interested in what their billionaire owner donors want than what’s good for regular people. Always have been, always will be.

Until people realize that and do something to replace them, Biden’s “nothing will meaningfully change” promise to the oligarchs will continue to be true.

    laws do still matter

In theory, yes. In practical terms, the fascists are ignoring every law they don’t like with impunity every day.

Just because you WANT to think that they’re restrained by the law like the rest of us and want everyone else to think so, doesn’t make it true.

    there are levels of bad

Yep. Pretending that it’s all going to work out because the law will stop them is bad. Demanding that others cosign your delusion and accusing them of being secret enemy agents if they don’t is WORSE.

we are nowhere near the bottom

That you’re right about, at least.

which your behaviour will bring us towards.

No. The behavior of the fascists is doing that. People who oppose fascism and are also aware of the extent of the crisis pointing it out to complacent people like you aren’t.

How about you actually do something instead of giving up.

How about you actually open your eyes to objective reality instead of insisting that the broken system will save us and that anyone who suggests otherwise is helping the fascists.
