  • Yeah but the problem is he didn’t achieve power by some manipulation of the vote at least not primarily he achieved it by getting a bunch of Americans to vote for him. A bunch of stupid ignorant Americans wearing silly hats voted for him.

Shy of any evidence to say otherwise he is the democratically elected leader of the United States. All the countries can’t be setting the precedent that if they don’t like a particular leader they will assist in their downfall.

Besides if Europe playes it’s cards right it’s about to become the economic superpower of the world. The current economic superpower appears to be continuously blowing their own feet off and giggling.

  • Yeah the problem with that conspiracy theory of yours is nowhere in the text does it ever even suggest that there is any expectation that the friend would have to be paid for. Or indeed that the guy in is even being expected to pay for the girls meal.

It also sounds like a first date, which is not something that is usually all that elaborate, so if this is some evil trap to get free food it’s going to basically be a taco maybe a sandwich something not something worth the effort.

  • That was definitely my thought reading it but also it would be a thought that I wouldn’t articulate because that’s not what’s actually happening, she just wants a friend to make sure I’m not creepy. So that definitely wouldn’t be the right thing to say.

Although if it was the right kind of person and the date was going well I suppose it could come off as a good joke depending on the person

It’s a test and you failed it by being weird and strange and obnoxious, just let her bring her friend it’s literally not a downside for you. She’ll feel more comfortable by bringing her friend which can only be a good thing for you.

I don’t really consider myself to be particularly spectacular in the social department but even I wouldn’t have reacted like that. To be crass, why wouldn’t you want more girls on your date?

  • Well it is about control they have to at least maintain the illusion that it’s about child protection. They have to at least maintain the veneer of legitimacy. So if enough people make enough noise about how this is actually a privacy violating nightmare (even though that’s actually the point) they will have to pretend to be concerned about that.

Anyway they have an out, this is mostly a Tory policy anyway that just got implemented under labour, so if it becomes a noose around there necks they can just get rid of the unpopular Tory policy and now they’re the heroes.

  • It’s not actually a bad strategy, ultimately the law is probably going to get slapped down as unworkable and there’s pretty good evidence to suggest that they knew it wouldn’t work even before they implemented it, which won’t make them look good.

Unfortunately the courts move so slowly that none of this has happened yet and the law has now gone into effect because the timer ran out, but in theory they could have done all the work to comply only for the law never to have happened.

  • Practically they can’t. In theory they could complain to the United States that a US business is attempting to circumvent UK law, but I can’t imagine that having much effect at the moment.

In theory it all works because companies would be more inclined to pay the fine than to lose UK customers, in reality of course it doesn’t work because everybody would just use a VPN anyway, but the people who wrote these laws don’t know about VPNs because they think computers run on magic smoke.
