Donald Trump and Maga allies have capitalized on the killing of rightwing influencer Charlie Kirk to expand attacks on liberal groups, donors, Democrats, and others by tarring many critics as the “enemy within” and “radical left” in a move that legal scholars and historians call authoritarian and anti-democratic.

Trump has been able to go this far because people are fucking morons. For a decade people who aren’t fucking morons have warned everyone else about trump but they didn’t listen or didn’t care. The problem isn’t that a media organization used an expression. The problem is that this country is chock full of absolutely braindead morons. I hate them all because it is 99% their fault. Yes the media has fucked things up a lot but they’ve also done tireless work to inform the public about trump and guess what? No one cared. Can we stop fumbling over ourselves to excuse the idiot masses? It. Is. Their. Fault. All the information in the world to warn them did not make a goddamned difference. They were angry and all they cared about was punishing the people they hate. They would’ve elected literal Hitler and that’s been clear for years and only gets more clear each day.

It’s not entirely the stupid fucking morons’ fault either. GOP has been cutting from education as long as I can remember an anti-intellectualism has been on the rise for decades now because uneducated population is easier to control. They made the stupid fucking morons and you blame the people.

I never blamed the media? My point is that the playbook has been open for decades: stolen elections, legalized bribery, the Patriot Act, the creation of ICE, NSA wiretapping, subsidized mass surveillance, torture programs, extrajudicial assassinations, RICO charges for protesters, mass incarceration, police brutality, genocide, etc etc.

The expression is “a page from the X book” anyway. There’s no reason to call this page one. We’re on page 1488.

“that’s page one in the playbook” is pretty common and means the same as “that’s [thing] 101”. I think it’s really clear they’re saying that this is clearly recognizable as something, not “this is the very first sign of something”.

I’m pretty sure the common phrasing is “a page out of the playbook” not “page one”

It’s not clear that they understand we’ve been reading from the playbook for decades.

Sorry it was clear just like it’s clear you’re blaming the media. You know, the media who kept a database of Trump’s lies and who eventually stopped doing it because no one gave a fuck? Probably because they used an expression differently than you expected.

Guys the expression is he told 10,000 lies not he told his 10,000th lie! That implies he didn’t tell more!!
