Delta, like other U.S. airlines, typically provides special services for lawmakers who fly frequently back and forth from Washington

Delta Air Lines is suspending special services for members of Congress, citing the impact of a partial government shutdown that has wreaked havoc on U.S. air travel.

"Due to the impact on resources from the longstanding government shutdown, Delta will temporarily suspend specialty services to members of Congress flying Delta,” the Atlanta-based U.S. air carrier said in a statement.

“Next to safety, Delta’s no. 1 priority is taking care of our people and customers, which has become increasingly difficult in the current environment.”

Members of Congress will not get airport escorts or VIP treatment for other services like seat upgrades or rebooking, the airline said, though lawmakers will still have access to a special phone line for reservations.

They shouldn’t be getting special service anyways. People aren’t going to effectively regulate something they get kickbacks from.

Well this is exactly why it’s a kickback since they’re using it to effect policy. They previously offered the services so Congress folks didn’t get to experience their shittiness.

Interesting, this is what the railroads did in the early 1900s, 100 years later and the only thing changed is the company and mode of transport

While true, making the change now and doing so conspicuously is nothing less than Ed Bastian signaling loyalty to Trump to curry favor.

      Disgusting.

Good. Next up, same healthcare as every other American. They’re not a noble class, and we need to remind them.

"Go wait in that long line.’

“Do you know who I am?”

“You’re the guy who’s going to be waiting in that long line. Or not, I don’t care.”

I don’t know if the headline on the site changed or OP changed it, but to be clear, Delta is not targeting only congressmembers who are voting against the current funding proposal (i.e., this is not a “punish Democrats” targeted action, despite the headline saying those who won’t get special treatment are “members refusing to fund TSA”).

This is the current headline which is clearer: “Delta axes special treatment for Congress members over ‘inexcusable’ refusal to fund TSA”.

im conflicted. on the one hand I don’t like they get the special treatment at all but on the other im annoyed that they are dropping it to theoretically interfere with the functioning of congress. and it don’t function all that often.

I’m surprised Congressman even fly commercial with us plebs. I thought they were all rich enough to fly in private jets and stroking off Corey Lewandowski.

You vastly underestimate how much even renting time on a private jet costs.

Which makes the folk who use them on the regular (like Linus Sebastien/Tech Tips) even bigger dickheads than you can imagine.

Do we have reason to believe that much of congress flies Delta?

I know (from one of the times I got trapped at DFW on a connection) that cruz flies out of the same terminal as AA but forgot to check the flight board.
