I do feel like these idiots should be thrown under the bus, and punished to the full extent of the law. I really do hope they’re held accountable for their wanton destruction.
That said, I can imagine some college graduates going along with something like this simply because they don’t have the life experience to really understand the legal, political, and social ramifications of what they’re doing.
I’d be willing to be lenient-ish with them if they can provide evidence and testimony that results in the successful prosecution of those above them. I’d be willing to continue to be lenient-ish as long as we keep getting info on a bigger criminal.

Not that I’m questioning that they did shit, but so far, being outside of the US, all I got was general accusations without any proof. I’d love to see the list of actual damage done, with receipts and all, just so it’s quantifiable.

I’ve never feared criminal prosecution after doing work, maybe because I’ve never done anything illegal? Why is it that some people (often wealthy) think that laws won’t apply to them? Especially people around Trump when he has had demonstrated history of throwing so many people under the wheels in the past?
I know a few trans librarian acquaintances who got the fuck out of Florida because the legal environment was getting too spicy. So yes, generally agree that if you fear criminal prosecution for doing your job something is wrong. In the trans librarian case, it’s Florida. In Doge’s case it was their behavior.
Not sure where I’m going with this, thinking on which set of folk feared repercussions enough to change something (environment or behavior)

Definitely not the kind of thing you’d have to worry about if you worked for a real government agency. You might get laid off or fired, but as long as you’re doing your job, you won’t be prosecuted for it.
However, if your “job” involves doing something illegal, that might require a pardon…maybe you should think twice about volunteering for that position.

It’s fine, Musk can find a new batch of kinda smart but not really college dropouts with delusions of impressing a narcissistic rich guy and a history of starting arguments with “well, actually, white men are the most oppressed social group”. They seem to be cloning them at industrial scale these days.
DOGE members are no different from ICE, they impart violence upon the innocent through bureaucracy. Both DOGE and ICE should put to trial at Nuremburg 2.0 as a class, and then anyone found on the books in their employ, executed.
These people are willfully evil, and are torchbearers of the Confederates. They shouldn’t be allowed to raise future generations that carry on their beliefs.

Musk had not been just their visionary leader. For them, he was their protector: the man who had a direct line to Trump, who they believed could pick up the phone and secure a presidential pardon if the worst came.
Now, that seems not to be a quote from somebody involved, but a quote from Politico, but with that in mind…
What kind of person does something with the expectation that they might need a pardon? Only people who think they might be committing a crime. You know, criminals.
And I would argue that if they were committing crimes with the expectation that Musk would secure them pardons from Trump, that is describing a conspiracy that includes Musk himself. (As well as Trump, but it wouldn’t be possible to charge him with that, given a recent Supreme Court ruling.)
If I was the next president, I’d have everybody from DOGE on federal charges as soon as was feasible, including Musk… Although given Trump’s health, the next president will likely be Vance. I wonder what the odds makers put on Vance being the next president.

Ah, but they’ve already claimed that Musk wasn’t part of DOGE and he’ll claim that the employees were making assumptions and he never said such a thing. And he’d probably be correct; Musk is much better than Trump at weasel wording things.
Doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a meticulous investigation though.
I don’t doubt that Musk is better than Trump at any sort of intellectual pursuit, but that’s only because Trump is that much of a dumbass. I mean, Musk seems to be able to read at a reasonably adult level.
Musk frequently says and does quite stupid things that involve him or his companies in legal peril. He’s famous for over-promising and under-delivering, and not via weasel words, but being specific. I think he gets away with it more from having good lawyers than from him acting any more intelligently than the average person.
